Overview
The city’s oldest functioning Islamic monument built by Ibn Tulun, sent from Baghdad by the Abbasid Caliphate. The mosque was built between 876 and 879 AD, and was the first building to use the pointed arch some 200 years before it became the mark of Gothic architecture in Europe.
